In recent years, two terms have become very familiar to everyone: "carbon peaking" and "carbon neutrality".

On September 22, 2020, at the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, my country proposed for the first time the goals of "carbon peaking" and "carbon neutrality": striving to achieve carbon peaking before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060.

What are "carbon peaking" and "carbon neutrality"?

Carbon peaking: refers to the period after carbon dioxide emissions reach their highest historical value and then gradually decline.

Carbon neutrality: By planting trees, saving energy and reducing emissions, etc., the carbon dioxide or greenhouse gas emissions generated by oneself are offset, achieving positive and negative offsetting, and reaching a relative "zero emission".

What is the "3060" carbon target?

The goal is to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.

What are the pathways to achieve carbon neutrality?

(1) Utilize technologies such as photovoltaics and wind power to generate clean energy;

(2) Adopt new technologies and equipment to improve the utilization efficiency of traditional energy sources such as coal;

(3) Converting carbon dioxide into useful products and resources through catalytic technology;

(4) Support the transformation of energy structure with technology.

What can we do to achieve our "dual carbon" goals?

Achieving the "dual carbon" target is a solemn commitment my country has made to the world and an important part of my country's ecological civilization construction, which is of great significance to ecological and environmental protection.
