Low-friction drill pipe is a revolutionary product that is made available by the electro-deposition of a corrosion-resistant, low-friction, wear-resistant layer bonded at the atomic level onto the surface of conventional drill pipe.This cobalt-based formula has been utilized extensively in the aerospace industry by its developer, Honeywell. The electro-depositional layer does not have any holes or microcracks, as seen in most common alternatives, and it has a high bonding strength. This new product is a game changer for directional drilling and paradigm shift in the approach of designing and implementation of deviated wells.
OPERATION
When the low-friction drill pipe is used, the existing slips and drill pipe tongs may need to be replaced with new proprietary low-friction counterparts.This solution offers proper makeup to achieve the smallest surface resistance downhole.
